The Spirit of the Green Industry: Everyone Has a Voice

Do you remember a time when you enjoyed writing just for the excitement of interacting with your friends?  This is one reason blogging is such a powerful tool in business today.  Blogging brings people together and engages them in a conversational environment.  It gives everyone a voice.

As an involved member of PLANET for nearly 15 years,  I have appreciated many opportunities to have a voice in shaping the future of our industry.   One of the purposes of this blog is to give you that voice too.   This the inaugural post for this blog, so let me briefly introduce myself so you have an idea where my perspectives are coming from.   My name is Jeff Korhan and I’m a past Board member of PLANET.   I’ve been an active participant of the Green Industry for over twenty years as a residential design-build contractor.  Today I’m a speaker and consultant to the industry.

I believe it is vital that we all have a voice in our industry.  Your membership in PLANET is one validation of your professionalism.  It connects you with like-minded professionals and creates a powerful voice that is essential to the continued strength of the Green Industry.  Regardless of your specialty, you are connected with other green professionals who share the same goals, challenges, and opportunities.  Working together, we can share valuable information that advances your progress, my progress, and the collective progress of our industry.

For those who may not be completely familiar with how blogging works, let me provide some guidelines.  This blog is not about me.  And it’s not about you.  It’s about everyone – you, me, other PLANET members, the customers we serve, and literally everyone that depends upon the success of our businesses.    This includes customers, suppliers, employees, friends and family members who all  benefit from a greener environment.  Not all of these groups will read this blog, which is exactly why you need to – and most importantly – to participate and have your voice heard on behalf of everyone concerned.

Blogging works through dialogue that relates stories, shares perspectives, and raises issues that need to be discussed.  The forum is open.  This means when you make a comment on this blog your voice is heard.  I will make every effort to respond to all comments to my posts and  encourage the discussion.

I have been blogging for a over two years.  In that period of time I have learned the most important aspect of  blogging is that it is a team sport – meaning,  it’s most productive when there is active participation.   Your talents, skills, and abilities will help your fellow PLANET members  and the Green Industry too.  This means your contribution, like mine, helps everyone.

PLANET has selected a few bloggers to kick off this blog.  We will provide our own viewpoints.   You are invited to comment as often as you wish.  The rules are simple.  Respect every one’s perspective – whether you agree or disagree, because this diversity is necessary in our society.  Coke and Pepsi may have their differences, but those same differences make each of them better and the consumer benefits as a result.   If you are all willing to share your views in a professional  business context, then we’ll accomplish a great deal towards achieving solutions to our common challenges and  respective goals.

I look forward to your comments to this and forthcoming posts.  I  wish you the very best in your business and personal endeavors this year.  Let me know about your blog if you have one.  If you don’t have a blog, let me know how I can help you get one started.  We are building a community and the more interaction we have the better.
