NALP Presents at 2017 National Association of Agricultural Educators Convention

On Wednesday, December 6, Martha Hill, member of the NALP Workforce Development Committee, presented to high school educators about Growing Careers in the Landscape Industry at the National Association of Agricultural Educators Annual Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.  The secondary school educators in attendance were exposed to NALP’s careers website, www.LandscapeIndustryCareers.org, as well as the National Association of Landscape Professional’s homepage, and the National Collegiate Landscape Competition site.

On LandscapeIndustryCareers.org, educators viewed the dynamic A Career in Landscaping Could be for You video, explored various career paths and associated details such as salary information and recommended experience and education, and participated in the ‘What Type of Landscape Professional Should You Be?’ quiz.  In addition, educators were shown the Education portions of the website, which include tips for identifying the right college, and reviews the various entry points into the industry.

Attendees agreed that it is important for our industry to target parents and change their perception of the landscape profession.  During the presentation, Mrs. Hill reviewed the Parents & Advisors portion of the website, which seeks to dispel myths about the industry. Mrs. Hill also distributed example classroom lesson plans, to be used in conjunction with the website.
