Mariani Landscape Acquires Ed Castro Landscape
Mariani Landscape has acquired Ed Castro Landscape as part of their national expansion. The company is working to become the top landscaping company focused primarily on the residential market.
Ed Castro Landscape is the ninth family-owned residential landscape company to join Mariani.
“Ed Castro and I share the same values,” says Frank Mariani, chairman of Mariani Landscape. “Both of our companies originated as family-owned businesses focused on delivering premier quality work to our discriminating customers. We also share a deep commitment to giving back to the community, leading the industry in sustainability, and allowing our employees to build successful careers while maintaining a good work-life balance. Our shared vision is what makes this acquisition seamless.”
Ed Castro Landscape was founded by Ed Castro in 1992. Based in Roswell, Georgia, they provide landscape construction, maintenance and related services year-round. They serve high-net-worth private residences and state and local government locations like parks, airports and government buildings.
“This opportunity to align with the best of the best in our industry is truly an honor and a privilege,” Castro says. “I could not be more excited for ECL associates and clients. This partnership gives us access to the best minds and resources in the green industry.”
Massey Services’ Founder Passes Away
Harvey Massey, founder and chairman of Massey Services, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2023, at the age of 81.
Massey purchased his own business in 1985 after working for Orkin and Terminix International.
He bought a 50-year-old pest and termite company for $3.9 million and grew it to a $350 million business in 2023. He never wanted to be the biggest company; he simply wanted to be the best.
He was committed to customer satisfaction and was the first in the industry to offer a money-back guarantee in the early 90s. Massey was a strong philanthropist and served on many boards. He was known for his thoughtful leadership, drive and compassion.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Massey, their three children and ten grandchildren.
BrightView Acquires Smith’s Tree Care
BrightView has acquired Smith’s Tree Care, Inc., based in Newport News, Virginia.
Smith’s Tree Care was founded in 2005 by Dave Smith and provides tree care, tree trimming and pruning, tree removal and stump grinding. The company’s addition complements BrightView’s existing tree care services in the greater Hampton Roads market. Smith says BrightView was a logical next step that puts them in the best position to grow the business.
“The acquisition of Smith’s Tree Care in a solid market, like Hampton Roads, further reinforces our strong-on-strong M&A strategy,” says Andrew Masterman, BrightView President and CEO. “Dave’s and Uwe Troxler’s hard work over the past 17 years has elevated Smith’s Tree Care to one of the market’s top tree service companies. We’re excited to welcome them to the BrightView Tree Care Services family as we work together to provide exceptional quality service and continue to position ourselves as the region’s preferred commercial tree care provider.”
