In season 2, episode 3 of the Growing in the Green Industry Podcast, hosts Miles Kuperus III, system architect at Include Software, Brett Lemcke, VP of R.M. Landscape and Macey Wollenberg, branch manager at LandCare, talk with Jenny Girard, area manager with R.M. Landscape.
Girard earned her associate’s degree in science and mathematics before moving on to SUNY Cobleskill, where her love of science and botany could become one. After her first semester of classes, and working as a greenhouse assistant, she realized how much she loved growing plants. After graduation, she interned as a production grower for Longwood Gardens, working in the greenhouses, aiding in installations and specialty mum trial research, and enjoyed behind-the-scenes visits to some of the leading public and private gardens in the country.
After her internship with Longwood Gardens, she worked at Busch Gardens for five years. Next, she moved back home to Buffalo and joined R.M. Landscape as an area manager, where she manages crews, clients, and projects, while also creating designs for customers. Girard has also recently engaged with NALP, specifically the Women in Landscape Network, which has brought a renewed sense of purpose to her life.
In this podcast, Girard describes her unique career path, which includes stops at Longwood Gardens and Busch Gardens Tampa, including details of some amazing live plant displays (a 12 ft orangutan?!) and lessons in going for what you want and living your passion. The hosts and Girard also talk about company culture and ties to strategic planning, mentorship, and volunteerism.
