Among the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, you’ll find a rural property with an exquisite lawn. But it wasn’t always that way. For years, the turf was plagued with weeds and unwanted grasses. These issues kept the home from reaching its full potential, so the owner contacted Oasis Turf & Tree, based in Loveland, Ohio, to transform this underwhelming yard. Their efforts led to earning a 2024 Gold Award of Excellence.
The front yard is the property’s focal point, so it needed to stand out in a good way. Until now, the weedy areas were creating a poor first impression for visitors and neighbors. The owners’ vision was to have a detailed, manicured lawn that would blend in with the home’s traditional look. And it wasn’t just the yard that needed attention.
A horse pasture runs along the front and backyards, adding contrast to other areas of the property. Oasis was tasked with preserving the natural look of the horse pasture while creating a perfect lawn that would set a tone for the whole property.
The pasture was left untouched for this project, but the turf near the pasture needed attention.
As the work got underway, the team took special precautions to avoid harming the horses. Zones were set up along the pasture to keep chemicals away from the area and minimize drift from the lawn. Oasis used push spreaders and backpack sprayers to make the applications precise and efficient. These measures helped eliminate weeds near the pasture while keeping the horses safe.
For other areas of the yard, a riding spreader was used to spread chemicals evenly throughout the property.
Removing the weeds was the first step in restoring the lawn. Herbicides were applied in stages to target each weed and prevent damage to the desirable turf.
The next step was creating a uniform stand of tall fescue across the whole yard. From soil testing to amending, this phase required several steps to establish the new turf. Once the prep was done, each area was seeded and irrigated as needed. The timing was also a factor since each step had to be done at different stages, based on the local growing conditions and daily weather patterns. Regular maintenance would also become a priority, including weed control, fertilization, and mowing.
As the project wrapped up, the lawn began to enhance other areas of the landscape. The home is surrounded by manicured hedges and drifts of floral color, which complement the deep green of the turf. Each week, the distinct mowing patterns highlight the improved health and quality of the yard.
Additionally, the horse pasture and stable remain a stunning backdrop that adds contrast to the pristine landscape and mature trees. Once the turf was restored, the owner took over weekly mowing duties and other landscape maintenance tasks. She even shared her excitement with the Oasis team by sending photos of her freshly mowed lawn to demonstrate the success of their collaboration.
