5 Quick Tips to Improve Your Efficiency

In August, the NALP Field Trip with Marty Grunder headed to Atlanta to HighGrove Partners where 135 landscape and lawn care company leaders got together for 3-days of networking, education and a facility tour at HighGrove Partners.

There were so many great tips and takeaways on increasing efficiency – here are a few of our favorites:

Have structured meetings. Every meeting has an agenda and a mission statement. Make some of your meetings cross departments. Sales needs to know what is happening in production and vice versa.

Remember: training is an investment, not an expense. Training your team is the single biggest thing you can do to drive efficiency.

Only handle it once. Don’t think about items in your company over and over. When something comes across your plate, find a way to handle it once and be done. Don’t read an email and not do anything with it. Respond to it, delete it, or forward it on to someone that can handle it better than you. This applies to every level in the organization.

Give your team the ball and let them run with it. Give clear expectations up front, hold them accountable, and let go of the vine. Smart, talented team members want the responsibility.

5/10 Rule. A great rule for answering communications. If a call/email comes in before 5 PM, it needs a response that day. If it comes in after 5:00pm, it needs to be responded to by 10am the next day. Even if you don’t have an answer, acknowledge that you received it, and tell them you will get them an answer.
